Fuquay-Varina was formed by the merger of two small towns, Fuquay Springs and Varina, each with its own unique history dating back to the late 1800s. Fuquay Springs became known for its mineral springs believed to have healing properties, while Varina developed as a railroad and agricultural community. Over time, the two towns grew together, officially merging in 1963. Today, Fuquay-Varina continues to grow rapidly while still preserving its historic downtowns and small-town character.
